Vobot Mini not advertising wifi

I’ve been using a Vobot Mini Dock for a few weeks. I sometimes work in an office and sometimes work at home. Yesterday I took it to the office and it worked fine. Today when I tried reconfiguring it to use my home wifi, I connected to the dock’s network. But before I could put my password in my iPhone lost connection and connected back to my home network.

My phone can’t see the Vobot network anymore. My laptop can’t see it either. I’ve tried 2 other laptops and an iPad. it’s like the device’s wifi chip just busted. I tried rebooting it. I tried doing a factory reset. Now it’s just stuck on the screen for wi-fi configuration and nothing I own says there’s a network with a Vobot SSID. I tried manually entering the information but it’s more like the device just isn’t looking.

Edit

After letting it sit for a long time, I was able to see it advertising the network, but something similar happened. As soon as a device connects to the Vobot network, the connection is immediately lost and the device stops advertising.

Hello,

Based on the problem you reported, we suspect the following reasons:

  1. Insufficient power supply of the device

  2. Damaged Wi-Fi module

Please try to use an adapter greater than 10W (5V/2A) for power supply, and then see if the problem can be solved.

If it cannot be solved, please contact us again and we will send you a new device.

If you have any questions about the use of the product, please feel free to contact us.

Hi! I’m using an old MacBook charger so it ought to be at least 60W. But that’s an interesting suggestion.

I unplugged it Friday and left it there until some time Saturday. For some reason when I plugged it back in, this time it was working. This particular MacBook charger is about 5 years old, so it’s possible it’s starting to act up. If this issue happens again, I’ll try a different charger and if that doesn’t fix the problem “damaged Wi-Fi module” sounds like a pretty good guess.

Hello,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide more detailed feedback. According to our current judgment, your device is running normally and the problem may be in the power supply. After detailed testing, we found that when using a 60W MacBook charger (model A1718/A1947) to power the Mini Dock, the adapter can stably output 61W of power, and the maximum output power of the Computer port of the Mini Dock is 51W, so in theory, there will be no insufficient power supply.

In order to express our attention to you and minimize your troubles, we are willing to provide you with a brand new device for free (please send the delivery address to our email [email protected]). In this way, you can use it conveniently at home and in the office without frequently switching networks. We sincerely hope that this solution will satisfy you, because your 100% satisfaction is very important to us.

If you encounter any problems during use, please feel free to contact us. We are always here to support you.

Thank you again for your understanding and support.

Yeah, I’m starting to think this unit is defective.

I am in the office today. Wi-fi configuration worked. At the office I’m using a 100W USB-C charger.

I can’t get the HDMI port to work on my Vobot Mini. Even when I plug a different adapter into the Vobot Mini, I can’t get it to work. When I insert the HDMI cable the monitor can tell there is a connection, but after a few seconds it says there’s no signal. If I plug the old adapter directly into my laptop, HDMI works through that. (I hadn’t noticed this at home because I use one large monitor there instead of the 2 I use at the office.)

I’ll send some details to that email address and we’ll see if the new one works better.
